Mwea is one of the four constituencies in Kirinyaga county, Central province, Kenya. It’s an area known for rice production in Kenya amongst other horticultural products such as tomatoes and French beans.
Mwea Irrigation scheme is the major agricultural land that the people of Mwea depend on. This has made Basmati rice to be the major cash crop in the area. However, there are other small scale farmers who depend on the canals to do horticultural farming.
As a result of swamps in the area, there are a lot of mosquitoes that have increased the prevalence of malaria in the area. In addition, Mwea people have problems of bad road network, rice blast, child labour, high school dropout amongst others.

Recently, the constituency has been divided in to two districts; Kirinyaga North (Mwea west) and Kirinyaga South (Mwea east).

MUCSA History
The birth of MUCSA was a wake up call to Mwea leaders and the residents at large about the Educational actualization in the constituency and the sole idea was to make the educational dream come true to the residents who before never minded much about education of their kids.
MUCSA was an idea of Mwea students born in 2003.The students who came up with this wonderful idea were;

Calbert Munene – Kenyatta University
Late Godfrey Njonjo – Egerton University
Robert Mwangi Githima – Kenyatta University
After its formation, guests were invited for its Launch at Christian Community Services (CCS Wang’uru) where the organization was introduced to the then member of Parliament Hon. Alfred Nderitu. It’s after this Launch that many people received the awareness of its existence. And at that point it received registration of up to 150 students. Today, it has a membership of over 300 members.
The organization was officially registered in 2005.
The main objective of MUCSA by then was to act as watch dogs of the devolved funds in the constituency and to give opportunity to students from Mwea constituency to participate fully in development as well as to create awareness of educational important in today world.

ACHIEVEMENTS.
MUCSA through its Chairmanship Mr. Anthony Ndung’u Kimani, invited Professor P.G.NGUNJIRI who was then University Community collaboration dept. at JKUAT to open a community Library at Thiba Chiefs camp. Various books and prizes were donated by Jommo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.
Through the aggression of its Leadership, MUCSA managed to tame the then adamant CDF officials to issue her members with school bursaries. Nowadays, the Bursary is offered annually to Mwea students.
In the year 2007 MUCSA was actively involved in a bicycle race and a clean up exercise organized by local leaders. The event was at Thiba Chief’s camp.
In the year 2008, MUCSA together with Professor PETER KAMAU (Kabarak University) organized for an education event in Rurii primary school which saw the students being educated and motivated on the need to work hard.
