NOTICE ON 4TH QUARTER EVENTS

Dear Comrades,

Greetings from the humble executive,

It has been an audacious effort one after another since the year began. We have to agree that we have made great strides towards achieving what we set for at the beginning of the year. There is no need to repeat what we have all achieved thus far as a group –academic visits to more than half the schools in mwea, participation in both Mwea West and Mwea East prize giving days, participation in planning the South Ngariama harambee that raised more than 1.2 million for erection of classes, Mwea Classic Marathon and so many other even despite of everyone busy schedules. Congratulations to everyone for that.
MUCSA & MYN Executive

Anyway, allow me to say that our main aim for this 3rd quarter notice is to highlight important events planned to occur in our final quarter of the year. Recently, the MUCSA executive saw it necessary that we as university and college students with that added advantage of future hope and more tendency to make an informed choice should interact with the youths at grass root level to at least share with them what we stand for especially with reference to the coming elections. We cannot definitely hide in a cocoon and ignore the fact that we Mwea youths desire for great leadership at Mwea yet the large share that vote make very irrational choices that come to haunt us.
In that respect we sought a meeting with Mwea Youth Network (MYN) executive which took place last Thursday. Those present came with the following resolution:

1.       We Mwea youths have so many issues to address but of utmost importance, we need youth sensitization on  making good choices of leaders come 2013, why not to be influenced by contestants coming with monies and other fake incentives like beer amongst other.
2.       That members from either groups (MUCSA members and MYN members) for a common goal to both parties should act together in our efforts to meet the main resolution above. However, either of us remain autonomous with duty to honor our different constitutions and membership responsibilities to our groups.

An agreement was reached that we should visit youths as per the eight wards at Mwea, a visit to a ward each Saturday. Allow me to quote from the day’s minutes to see the facilitator and dates for each ward.
1.       Kangai – Margret Gitari (MUCSA) – 13/10/12
2.       Murinduko –Antony Munene (MYN)– 27/10/12
3.       Mutithi – Edwin Wahome (MUCSA) – 3/11/12
4.       Tebere – Daniel Njuguna (MUCSA) – 10/11/12
5.       Thiba – Kiragu (MYN)-17/11/12
6.       Nyangati – Charles Chomba (MYN) – 24/11/12
7.       Wamumu – Luke Karimi (MYN) – 8/12/12
Nb: Gathigiriri was not given any date but was to be covered in the visits to Nyangati and Tebere
To conclude the visits we plan to have a joint grand convention at Ngurubani stadium on 15th, December 2012.

A committee to oversee the joint project was formed under leadership of :
1.       Daniel Njuguna-chairman-MUCSA
2.       Ann Wangechi- vice chair-MYN
MUCSA & MYN meeting

It is with respect to the above busy schedule that we are convening an all members meeting on October Saturday 6th, at Fig Tree Hotel commencing 2.00pm. There will be communication by sms but kindly lets inform each other. Address any questions to any of the leaders.  Any changes made will be communicated so keep busy at facebook and twitter-Mucsa_mwea
Again on behalf of the chairman, all the executive and our patron let me thank you all and wish you an exemplary academic year ahead. Thank you.

MUCSA ACADEMIC DAY REPORT ON MOTIVATIONAL TALKS

Chairman Dan addressing students
MWEA UNIVERSITY AND COLLEGE STUDENTS ASSOCIATION

MUCSA ACADEMIC DAY REPORT

May 25th, 2012

Mission-To meet the relevant schools and interact with the teachers and students to give our view and advice on meeting academic goals or simply the purpose toward excellence.

INTRODUCTION

In efforts to arrest our continued lagging behind of our dear Mwea constituency when it comes to academic matters, MUCSA has made it an annual activity amongst its calendar of events ‘THE MUCSA ACADEMIC DAY’. This activity enables us to bridge the great gap that has emerged between those who have received or are receiving higher education and those still at secondary schools. In the eventual day, mucsa members visit various schools within the constituency and give talks as well as interacting with the schools fraternity at large. This has enabled us to reach thousands of students, teachers and parents and share with them what we have garnered from here and there and see if we can work hand in hand with them toward meeting our general goal-creating an elite Mwea.

Many of us schooled in schools outside Mwea during our secondary education and must have counted ourselves lucky then. The truth only dawns upon us during our higher education studies or way past graduation that in fact, the many of our brothers and sisters who didn’t get the chance to go to the Alliances, Kabare, Starehes to name but a few, but rather schooled at our local actually didn’t fail to make it because they couldn’t, but it’s because of hindrances that we could have assisted or simply a little advice didn’t come their way.

THE JOURNEY AND SCHOOL VISITS

“The morning chill ate deep into the meek bones of the early morning travelers. At the corner in the back seat within the matatu, an African male shuddered then gave a sigh of relief while beckoning at the others to draw the windows closed. His eyes were red evidence to an awakening from the nap he had drifted into. He drew his eyes outside only to see a cloud of dust rising from the other side of the road. A sideways poster written TEBERE caught his eyes next to a dusty mining acreage. Slowly he jogged his memory while reaching for his phone. The time read 8.06 am, they must have closed Tana river- I mean river Sagana. Quickly he scrolled for a number from his phone book and initiated a call. He was reaching the chairman of mucsa for he wanted to know how long they had fallen behind the schedule. What he did not know was that it was just the beginning of a hectic day that would drain everyone by the time the day ended, little did he anticipate it….”. This was the group that had left Nairobi and its environs at the wee hours of the morning so as to make the day a success.

Everyone assembled at Makutano town eager to start the day. This was not just a day, it was the MUCSA academic day. Many wanted to participate in the day activities but owing to the ongoing university examinations, not all could avail themselves. Besides, this was a rescheduled day as the planned visit for early May had been brought forward to allow for those schools that had opening exams and for students to settle. The day was planned to start by 8.30am and everything seemed to be going to plan. Most of those traveling from Nairobi and other far places were the first to arrive. It gave them enough time to have breakfast while awaiting their fellow comrades to arrive.

                By 9.00am, almost everyone had assembled at the meeting point and we were all ready to start the day. We divided ourselves into four groups with each group having one of them as the team-leader. Our goal was to meet 12( twelve) schools. The four groups and their team-leaders were as follows;

Group 1-Rukanga  Secondary school                       Team leader-Antony Matigari

             Kandongu Secondary School

             Kangai Secondary School

Mwea Motivational Talk - Part 2

Students listening at Mwea Boys' Secondary
On Friday 8th July 2011 was the day to visit the secondary schools for our part two of the motivational talks. We had a big group of MUCSA members who visited schools in Mwea. This time we changed the format to have an impact to the student where individual group tackled one school.

The schools visited are:-
Mwea Boys' Secondary School
Wang'uru Girls' Secondary School
Karoti Girls' Secondary School
Nyangati Secondary School
Kandongu Secondary School
Komboini Secondary School

Kutus Secondary was not addressed though there was a group that was sent there.

We had a problem of some head teachers being uncooperative yet we were not charging anything for the motivational talks. This is our initiative to assist in motivating the students to perform better for the common good of the community.
From this two events this year, then we have something to benchmark from and hope this will be successful next time it will be conducted.
The organizing Committee thanks everybody that was involved in planning and execution of the program especially our members who are at home and cooperated. We also thank the school administrations that gave us a chance to talk to the students. Lastly, we will be in debt without mentioning our Patron Mr. Josphat Wachira Kabinga OGW (USAID) for sourcing for funds to cater for the logistics. Kama si sisi ni nani? ni wewe na wewe na wewe!

Mwea motivational talks - Part 1

Vice Chairperson - Manasseh Kimachui speaking at Good Samaritan school
This year we have started on a higher note!

On Tuesday 22nd February 2011 was the actual day for us to hold Secondary schools Motivational talks. This was geared towards motivating schools within Mwea. However, due to the large geographic distance of the larger Mwea, we started with Mwea West schools.
We left Nairobi at 7.00am in two matatus with 30 MUCSA members and at Makutano we divided for one group to tackle the upper side and the other to handle the lower side.
The schools visited were:
1. Good Samaritan Secondary School.
2. Ngang'a Secondary School
3. Ndindiruku Secondary School
4. Nyaga Secondary School
5. Kangai Secondary School
6. Kagio Secondary School
7. Kang'aru Secondary School
8. Mutithi Girls Secondary School
The following schools were also targeted but due to some reasons it was not possible;
1. Komboini Secondary School - Were on Mid-term break
2. Mwea Boys High School - were doing their mid term exams
3. Thiba Secondary School - Time factor (Day school)
4. kandongu Secondary School  -Time factor
 5. Nyaikungu Secondary School - Time factor
6. Gitooni Secondary School - Time factor
7. Rukanga Secondary School - Were on Mid-term break

We are in the process of formulating a strategy on how to tackle schools in Mwea East and any suggestion or assistance is highly welcomed.
Finally, the organizing committee thanks all MUCSA members who availed themselves for this noble idea despite having Continuous Assessment Tests (CATs) in our respective colleges as well as the administrations of all the schools that were receptive. Also, we cannot forget our Patron Mr. Josphat Kabinga for the financial support and guidance he has accorded us.
Lets join hands to uplift the education status in our schools - Kama si sisi ni nani? niwewe nawewe nawewe.
